piercing AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Proper aftercare is crucial for your new piercing to heal quickly and correctly. Please follow the guidelines provided below and rely on your piercer's expert advice. We stock recommended aftercare products in-studio, and our team is always available to answer any questions.

CARING FOR YOUR NEW PIERCING

Proper aftercare is the key to avoiding irritation, infection, and migration. Follow these guidelines to keep your piercing clean and healing smoothly.

Clean the piercing twice a day using a sterile saline solution. Spray or soak the area, let it sit for 30–60 seconds, then gently pat dry with clean, disposable paper towels. Avoid alcohol, peroxide, or harsh soaps.

Do NOT rotate or twist the jewelry. Leave it exactly as it was placed. Turning it reopens the wound and slows healing.

Keep your piercing dry and avoid pressure. Change pillowcases often, avoid sleeping directly on the piercing, and keep hair, hats, headphones, and tight clothing away from the area.

Avoid submerging the piercing in pools, lakes, oceans, hot tubs, or bathtubs for at least 4–6 weeks. Showers are fine.

Keep hands off. Only touch the piercing when cleaning, and always wash your hands beforehand.

Expect some normal healing signs: light redness, swelling, tenderness, and clear/white discharge.

Avoid crust picking—soften it with saline and wipe gently.

Do not remove or change jewelry early. Every piercing has its own healing timeline, but most require weeks to months before a change-out is safe. Ask your piercer before swapping jewelry.

Avoid makeup, lotions, or skincare products near the piercing during the healing period—especially on facial or ear piercings.

Be mindful of movement and snags. Clothing, towels, hairbrushes, pets, and phone screens can easily catch jewelry and disrupt healing.

Once healed, keep jewelry in. Piercings can shrink or close faster than you think if left empty.

PIERCING – What to Expect

Piercings also create an open wound, so expect initial soreness, redness, and slight swelling for several days. Some crusting around the jewelry is normal as it heals. Keep it clean with your aftercare routine and avoid touching, twisting, or removing the jewelry. Healing times vary by location, but irritation bumps can pop up if the area is disturbed—just keep cleaning consistently. If you notice unusual swelling, heat, or discharge, reach out and we’ll help you figure out the next step.
